It looks as if the heat is here to stay, or at least for awhile. We must remember to stay well hydrated, especially when outdoors. Water or a sports drink with electrolytes (be aware of too many sugars) are best when spending time outdoors in the excessive heat. This post is for all the other reasons we hydrate throughout the day. There will be a healthy alternative recipe for iced coffee lovers, a great protein shake that can be used as a meal replacement or snack, and a refreshing hibiscus-pomegranate iced tea.
Frozen Mochaccino
Ingredients:
- 1 cup double-strength brewed coffee or espresso (see Tip)
- 1 cup low-fat milk
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened natural cocoa powder (not Dutch-process), plus more for sprinkling if desired
- 2-3 tablespoons pure maple syrup
- ⅛ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1-2 ice cubes, if needed
Instructions:
- Combine all ingredients in pitcher and stir until well mixed.
- Place in refrigerator until cold or overnight.
- When ready to serve, dust with a little cocoa powder if desired. Makes 2 servings
Tip: To brew double-strength coffee, use twice the amount of grounds you normally would use. Espresso is strong enough brewed regularly.
