Treatment Techniques to Reduce Pain and Swelling

General Information about treatments:

  • Treatments begin with an Evaluation of your symptoms and a Plan of Care
  • Each treatment will last approximately 1 hour
  • For conditions involving the Low Back and Legs, please bring a pair of shorts or loose fitting sweat pants/casual wear
  • For conditions involving the Neck or Arms, please bring or wear a loose fitting shirt with short or no sleeves.
  • Don’t fret if you don’t bring this attire, as the clinic has shorts and gowns if needed.
  • Treatment consists of “hands on” care by your therapist. They will palpate, stretch and massage your muscles and joints, followed by exercise that you do or with their assistance.
  • You will be instructed in and given pictures of, an exercise program to be done at home approximately 2 times per day.
  • Most treatments begin with a “Hot Pack” to prepare the body part and end with a “Cold Pack” to reduce pain and swelling.
  • Feel free to ask questions at any time during the treatment as we are partnering with you in this process of You Feeling Better!
  • A normal course of treatment begins with Therapy 3 times per week and tapers to 1 time per week as significant improvement occurs. Especially after surgery, 3 treatments per week along with you performing your Home Exercise Program, is imperative to regain the motion in the joint that was operated on. ROM (range of motion) is the first/primary goal to accomplish.
  • A typical Prescription of Therapy is written by your Physician for 3 to 4 weeks, then you return to see them to follow up on your progress.
